The Gallery Players, Alamance county’s longest-running community theater group, is excited to announce auditions for this compelling play that is based on Harper Lee’s beloved novel.

Setting for the play is Maycomb, Alabama in 1935.
JEAN LOUISE FINCH – Age range 30-50. Adult version of Scout who acts as narrator of the play, often commenting on action taking place.
SCOUT FINCH – Age range 8-11. The young Jean Louise, a naive and idealistic tomboy who comes to understand human nature and racism in her town.
JEM FINCH – Age range 11-14. Scout’s older brother, a typical boy who matures greatly throughout the course of the play.
DILL HARRIS – Age range 9-12. Slight, imaginative and intelligent boy who spends all his time with Scout and Jem.
ATTICUS FINCH – Age range 45-55. Wise, middle-aged attorney and father to Scout and Jem. His role as defense attorney in trial is the centerpiece of the action.
CALPURNIA – Age range 35-60. Finch family’s strict but loving African-American housekeeper who fills maternal role for the children.
MAUDIE ATKINSON –Age range 35-50. Open-minded neighbor whom the children hold in high regard and respect.
STEPHANIE CRAWFORD – Age range 30-50. Enthusiastic neighborhood gossip.
MRS. DUBOSE – Age range: 60-80. Virulent racist neighbor despised by the children.
ARTHUR “BOO” RADLEY – Age range: 35-55. Mute, recluse neighbor whose mysterious reputation slowly reveals itself.
HECK TATE – Age range 40-60. Sheriff of Maycomb County and friend of Atticus.
JUDGE TAYLOR – Age range 50-70. Laid-back judge who runs his court in similar fashion.
REVEREND SYKES – Age range 45-60. Strong-willed pastor of town’s African American church.
MAYELLA EWELL – Age 19. Illiterate, put-upon young woman who makes accusation of rape.
BOB EWELL – Age range 40-50. Racist, dirt-poor alcoholic father to Mayella.
WALTER CUNNINGHAM – Age range 35-45. Poor farmer who leads a lynch mob before the trial.
MR. GILMER – Age range 40-60. Prosecuting attorney in the rape trial.
TOM ROBINSON – Age range 28-35. Strong-willed, quietly dignified African-American on trial for rape.
HELEN ROBINSON – Age range 25-30. Tom’s African American wife who tries to stay strong through trial and aftermath.
